Overview

Mission alignment
The White Plains City School District strives to educate and inspire all students, nurturing their dreams so they learn continually, think critically, pursue their aspirations, and contribute to a diverse and dynamic world. This work includes thoughtful, responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in support of innovation, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.

This page has been organized as an official district resource. Its purpose is to provide one clear location for district guidance, approved tool expectations, classroom documentation, and staff support materials related to AI use.

Who this applies to

Students, staff, administrators, and district stakeholders who are using or supporting AI within the educational process.

What belongs here

District guidance, classroom agreements, implementation expectations, and future training resources aligned to White Plains practice.

Approved Platform

District approved tool

SchoolAI is the district’s approved platform for classroom AI use. Staff should begin with SchoolAI when implementing AI supported learning experiences or classroom workflows within the district.

This page is written to support that district direction and to keep guidance, expectations, and supporting documents in one official place.

District Documents

The following documents should anchor implementation across classrooms and schools.

AI Guidelines

District level guidance on opportunities, risks, responsible use, classroom expectations, professional development, compliance, and annual review.

Classroom Agreement

A student facing agreement outlining safe, responsible, and academically honest use of generative AI tools in school.

Start Here

  1. 1
    Review the district guidance.

Begin with the White Plains City School District AI Guidelines before planning classroom use or staff implementation.

  2. 2
    Use the district approved platform.

For classroom implementation, staff should work within SchoolAI and follow district expectations for privacy, safety, and responsible use.

  3. 3
    Review expectations with students.

Explain how AI may and may not be used in your classroom, including academic honesty, fact checking, and appropriate acknowledgement of AI use.

  4. 4
Use the classroom agreement as part of implementation.

For students using generative AI tools, the classroom agreement provides a consistent district reference point for expectations and student responsibility.

Classroom Expectations

For students
  • Use AI responsibly and understand that AI tools can be helpful but also carry risks.
  • Do not assume AI generated information is always accurate. Verify facts with trusted sources.
  • Protect privacy and do not share personal information.
  • Be honest about AI use in schoolwork and follow academic honesty expectations.
  • Ask a teacher when you are unsure whether a tool or use case is appropriate.
For staff
  • Set clear classroom expectations for when AI can support learning and when students must complete work independently.
  • Teach students to verify information, evaluate bias, and use AI as a support rather than a substitute for thinking.
  • Use district guidance and the classroom agreement to establish consistent routines and language.
  • Protect student privacy and use the approved district platform for classroom implementation.
Academic honesty and acknowledgement

Students should not submit AI generated work as their own original creation. When AI is used in an assignment, staff should provide clear expectations for acknowledgement, citation, and acceptable use based on the design of the task.

Professional Learning

District guidance identifies professional development as an essential part of implementation. Priority areas include:

  • Training on AI tools and ethical use in education
  • Support for lesson design and curriculum integration
  • Guidance on how AI use may be addressed in assignments and classroom expectations
  • Ongoing review of compliance, privacy, and instructional practice
